Asgaard Farm
A brief photo essay resulting from a weekend stay at Emerson House on the grounds of Asgaard Farm & Dairy, AuSable Forks, NY. At the outset I wish to acknowledge present owners, David Brunner and Rhonda Butler. The property has been an active business since 2003 and welcomes visitors. For specific details about their enterprise the viewer is encouraged to visit their Web Site at www.asgaardfarm.com.
Asgaard Farm is the former residence of the American Modernist painter and illustrator, Rockwell Kent (1882-1971). The property and surrounding vistas were often inspirations for his Adirondack subjects, a few examples of which are included (credits are noted as available). Kent traveled widely and spent considerable time in austere but beautiful locations - from Greenland to Tierra Del Fuego. A liberal progressive, transcendentalist and mystic, he was also politically controversial, particularly during the McCarthy era. HIs works may be viewed at the world's great art museums.
